Agnete Bjerre - memorial exhibition

The painter Agnete Bjerre died in the autumn of 2020 at the age of 96. Bjerre was one of the artists very close to the museum, and she is very well represented in the collection.Vendsyssel Kunstmuseum therefore now presents a memorial hanging with a selection of works from the collection.

With focus on colour as a central theme, Agnete Bjerre created her very own style, which she maintained throughout her life. Human depictions and especially women are among Agnete Bjerre's favorite motifs. She does not paint portraits in the traditional sense, but uses her models to express moods and to convey human destinies. In the mature work, landscapes also become part of the circle of motifs, and here it is the land of childhood, Vendsyssel, with its high sky and open expanses, that becomes the source of inspiration. The exhibition provides an insight into the artist's work from its infancy in the 1940s until the 1990s. The exhibition shows i.a. a number of new acquisitions that have not been shown at the museum until now.
